Benefits To Having A Union:
*With a union the employees and management stand on level ground.
*Representative’s chosen from your workgroup workwith the company to
negotiate a contract.The contract would consist of issues agreed upon by your work group.Such issues
would perhaps include improved HEALTH CARE, BETTER WAGES, BETTER RETIREMENT, JOB SECURITY etc. whateverYour work group feels is
important to them.
*With a union in place you will also have the grievance procedure.Should
the company violate the contract the employee has the right to file a grievance and attempt to resolve the issue
What We Need From You:
*We need you to acquire members in your work group
who share your concerns. Members
who agree that A union is a viable option. The more members you can gather the better.
*We have a meeting with the interested members from your workgroup and the organizer from Local
4322 to
answer concerns and questions. At
this meeting we will
explain the rest of the Organizing procedures.
YOUR LEGAL
RIGHTS TO ORGANIZE:
National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)
Section 7:
“Employees shall have the right to self-organization, to form, join, or
assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representation of
their own choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose
of collective bargaining…”
Section 8(a): “It shall be an unfair
labor practice for an employer…to interfere with, restrain, or coerce
employees in the exercise of the rights guaranteed in section 7…”
Under Section 7 of the NLRA, you have the
legal right to:
1.
Attend meetings to discuss joining a union.
2.
Read, Distribute, and discuss Union literature (as long as you do this in
non-work areas during non-work times, such as during breaks or lunch hours)
3.
Wear union buttons, t-shirts, stickers, hats, or other items on the job.
4.
Sign a card asking your employer to recognize and bargain with the union.
5.
Sign petitions or file grievances related to wages, hours, working
conditions, and other job issues.
6.
Ask other employees to support the union, to sign union cards petitions,
or to file grievances.
